About Saul Selby, MA LADC
Saul’s extensive career and personal recovery make him uniquely qualified to assist others in overcoming addiction.
- Personal Recovery: Saul was previously addicted
to drugs and alcohol and began a recovery process in 1979.
- Addiction Treatment Professionals: Saul has
worked professionally in the addiction field since 1983. His experience
includes 17 years at the Hazelden Foundation. His last position at Hazelden
was Clinical Director of services at the Center City campus in Minnesota.
- Mental Health Counseling: Saul has worked as
a Mental Health Practitioner since 2001 in Minnesota rule 29 Mental Health
Clinics. He specializes in working with individuals, couples and families
trying to heal from the dual effects of addictions and Mental Health
conditions like depression and anxiety. He also does Chemical Assessments
for DUI’s and other legal issues.
- Author: Saul has written a number of recovery
oriented publications that have sold over 600,000 copies. They include
A Look at Cross Addiction and The Voice of Addiction.
- Public Speaking & Training Professionals: Saul
has excelled at public speaking since 1983. He is skilled at inspiring
and teaching others on a variety of topics related to recovery. Since
2002 Saul has been a professional trainer for PESI. In this role he has
trained thousands of Mental Health professionals on addiction and dual-diagnosis
treatment. Saul is available as a speaker.
- Recovery Videos: Since 2002 Saul has been developing
video products designed to be used in treatment centers and recovery
groups. All Saul's video’s include the puppet “Slick” who

- Creator of Slick “The Voice of Addiction”: In
1984 Saul was inspired to use a puppet to illustrate the addictive voice
that often contributes to relapse — he called it “Slick”.
Since then Slick has become an iconic symbol of the voice of addiction.

- Spiritual Approach: Saul is an ordained Christian minister who can help individuals integrate their Christian faith with recovery principles. However Saul has worked effectively with people of all faiths as well as people who have no or little faith. While Saul values faith as an important part of healing, he recognizes that many people are uncomfortable with a spiritual approach and will help clients develop resources that work for them.
